In March of 2021, Cassie Sheetz, a 24-year-old white female from Upper Tract, W.Va., was reported missing after last being seen near Spruce Knob in Pendleton County.
Months later, West Virginia State Troopers responded to human remains found deep within the Monongahela National Forest, near Seneca Creek in Pendleton County, that were discovered by a hunter. These remains were recovered and sent to the WV Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute and Marshall University.
Recent DNA testing confirmed the identity of the remains as Cassie Sheetz through DNA samples obtained from members of the Sheetz family. TFC. K.C. Raymond is continuing the investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Franklin Detachment at (304) 358-2200.
