More than 500,000 West Virginians have now been fully vaccinated for COVID-19

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 370 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

The state also crossed a vaccination milestone Sunday, with more than 500,000 residents now fully vaccinated against the virus.

Locally, new cases were reported in Barbour (3) and Randolph (1) counties Sunday. A total of 32 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 63-year old female from Kanawha County, an 81-year old male from Kanawha County, a 92-year old female from Harrison County, a 63-year old female from Berkeley County, and an 88-year old male from Mineral County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 18, 2021, there have been 2,611,346 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 148,887 total cases and 2,785 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,390 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 138,712 people have recovered and 2,785 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.3%.

A total of 506,965 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
