Mon Health’s Carole Norton added to state committee

WESTON, W.Va. – Chief Nursing Officer at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Carole Norton was recently honored by her addition to the Division of Health Sciences at the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The Advisory Council provides guidance to the Division on various matters related to its healthcare initiatives. A goal of the Division of Health Sciences is to improve the health of West Virginians, particularly rural and underserved populations.

“I didn’t realize all the initiatives that this organization oversees. It is an honor and exciting to be a part of something that is so necessary to our healthcare future,” said Norton.

She also said that she can be a voice on the Committee for the issue of nursing workforce to help combat the nursing shortage.

Norton began her healthcare career at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant in 1996. She graduated from Fairmont State College with a nursing degree in 1997 and has been at the hospital since that time. She received her BSN from WVU in 2010 and her MBA in Healthcare Administration in 2018. She currently is working on a doctorate degree in nursing practice at Aspen University.

She has worked in several different departments since starting at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, including the Emergency Department, Special Delivery Unit, and Acute Care. She has also been house supervisor, corporate compliance officer, risk manager, and the assistant chief nursing officer. She also attended the WV Hospital Leadership Academy and graduated in the 2020-2021 class.
