Rock Cave man dies after falling into stream while trying to fill water jugs

On January 13, 2025, the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding an active water rescue on McDowell Lane in Rock Cave.

The resident, Roger Haymond, 44, and his wife had gone to a stream located on the property to fill water jugs. Haymond attempted to fill a water jug but fell into the creek.

His wife left the scene, returned to the house and had 911 called.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, EMS and fire departments arrived at the scene and provided medical care to Haymond, who unfortunately succumbed to the injuries sustained during the incident.
