Laurel Place therapist named 2019 Employee of the Year

ELKINS, W.Va. – Laurel Place is pleased to announce that Colleen Merrill, CTRS, Recreation Therapist for Davis Medical Center’s (DMC) inpatient geriatric behavioral health program has received national recognition as the 2019 Inpatient Division Employee of the Year.

Laurel Place is managed by Psychiatric Medical Care (PMC) who partners with nearly 150 facilities nationwide to provide behavioral healthcare management services. The company’s inpatient division launched in 2015, 12 years after the company was founded. PMC currently manages units in four states and the division continues to grow.

Top performing employees within the inpatient division are recognized annually based on their excellence in demonstrating the company’s values of care, compliance, and community. Merrill demonstrated outstanding patient care, excellent comprehension and execution of compliance regulations, and strong community engagement.

“You never see Colleen without a smile,” said Jessica Couch, BSN, RN-BC, and Regional Director for Psychiatric Medical Care. “She brings so much to the program, and the patients love spending time with her. Colleen is one of the most caring and skilled therapists with whom I’ve had the pleasure to work.”

Merrill said, “This was both a wonderful surprise and great honor.”

Merrill accepted the award during the Laurel Place one-year anniversary celebration on February 5. PMC representatives, co-workers and her husband, Evan, participated in the surprise recognition.
