BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan (1-4-1, 1-3-1) women’s soccer team and West Virginia State (4-2-0, 3-1-0) were scoreless until the 77th minute when the Yellow Jackets scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 decision at Culpepper Stadium on Sunday night.

Wesleyan was on the attack early in the 16th minute when MaKatlyn Tucker sent a shot to the lower left side of the goal that was saved by the WVSU goalkeeper Laura Galindo. In the 38th minute, Naiomi Waithira fired a shot off of the crossbar as the Yellow Jackets amplified their pressure towards the end of the first half. The score was deadlocked 0-0 at halftime.

Natalia Roppolo worked her way into the box and slipped a shot on goal stopped by Galindo.

West Virginia State broke through in the 77th minute on a cross from Brooklyn Pritt to Fran Soares-Cupertino, who headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. WVSU outshot WVWC, 8-6.

The Lady Bobcats are scheduled to make the short trip to Davis & Elkins in a road match beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29.
