BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc swim team opened their 2022 season last week with in a three-team event at The Bridge Complex.
The Lady Bucs finished second out of the three teams with 37 points.
Bridgeport won the event with 47 points while Robert C. Byrd was third with a single point.
The Lady Bucs won six events winning four individual events and two relay events.
Picking up the individual wins were Cadence Vincent in the 100-yard freestyle (52.12) and the 100-yard backstroke (59.09), Lilly Fetty in the 50-yard freestyle (28.97) and Alayna Whitehair in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.41).
The two victorious relay teams were foursome of Fetty, Whitehair, Vincent and Sammie Shay in the 200-yard medley relay (2:06.34) and that same foursome in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:53.50).
“The swimmers are working hard and are still getting into shape,” remarked first-year head coach Jenny Bennett. “We had a few with the flu. We hope to stay healthy. I look for great things from this group this season.”
The Lady Bucs were slated to compete in the Bridgeport Invitational this past Saturday and they will be back in the pool on Wednesday, Nov. 30 hosting George Washington at the West Virginia Wesleyan pool.
