Lady Buc netters tumble to regional foes Wheeling Park and University

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc tennis team squared off against a pair of regional powerhouses on Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday at the West Virginia Wesleyan courts, they lost a 6-1 decision to Wheeling Park then on Tuesday on the WVU courts, the dropped another 6-1 decision to University.

The lone victory against Wheeling Park came at No. 3 doubles as Cate O’Neill and Alexis Wuchner beat Anna Coleman and Ava Norman by an 8-6 score.

“The girls played okay against Wheeling Park and I’m happy for our No. 3 doubles team of O’Neill and Wuchner staying undefeated so far this year,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock.

Against University, the lone victory belonged to the No. 1 doubles team of Tori Adams and Lainey Rowan as they defeated Marissa Takacs and Leigh Mathes by an 8-0 score

“One of our captains, Tori Adams, gave a pre-match speech on the bus which put us in the right mindset to play University so kudos to her,” stated Rock. “Our girls played hard and I’m really proud of our No. 1 doubles play today. Tori and Lainey were matched up with some junior varsity subs but they didn’t “play down” at all. They played at their level and showed they were the much better team so I was proud of how they played and competed despite the difference in abilities. Also, the venue is really cool. We got to play on WVU’s courts so I think that maybe pumped us up to play some good tennis.”

The action left the Lady Bucs with a 1-3 record as they were slated to host Lewis County on Wednesday.

They will be back on the courts on Friday hosting Liberty in a Big 10 Conference battle at 4 p.m.
