Kyle Hoffman returns to alma mater as new WVWC head tennis coach

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Alumnus and former Bobcat men’s tennis standout Kyle Hoffman was selected as the head coach for both WVWC men’s and women’s tennis programs, Athletic Director Randy Tenney announced on Monday (Sept. 13).

“We are excited to have Kyle take over our tennis program,” Tenney said. “As an alum of the program, he understands Wesleyan. He has many connections in the tennis world. The future looks bright with Kyle at the helm.”

Hoffman arrives in Buckhannon after a two-year stint as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Salem. Under his watch, both Tiger teams were ranked in the Division II Atlantic Region Top-10.

“I am super excited to be coaching at my alma mater,” Hoffman said. “I want to thank Coach Tenney and President Thierstein for the opportunity. After being a student-athlete here, it’s sort of surreal to have a different role. I have really enjoyed refamiliarizing myself with the campus. WVWC tennis has historically had a lot of success and I’m hoping to continue that.”

Prior to Salem, Hoffman was the head men’s tennis coach at Fairmont State for three seasons from 2016-2018. He led the Falcons to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance during his time while being named ITA Division II Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2017. Hoffman also took home back-to-back Mountain East Conference men’s tennis Coach of the Year awards.

In addition to coaching, Hoffman works in the United States Tennis Association Mid-Atlantic office as the Associate Director of Coach Engagement.

He played for the Bobcats from 2002-2006, graduating from West Virginia Wesleyan with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Business Management. Hoffman earned WVWC men’s tennis Most Improved Player recognition his junior year and team Most Valuable Player as a senior.

Hoffman will take the reins from Jay Evans who resigned as head coach on Aug. 23.
