James Milton Barnhill

James Milton Barnhill, 86, of Rock Cave (formerly of Mentor, OH) passed away peacefully at the home he loved so much and surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Jim was born on May 17, 1938, in Grayson, KY, a son of the late Ralph Wick and Mary Elizabeth White Barnhill. He attended the Carter County Schools in Kentucky. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. He was a proud member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio attending the Willoughby, Ohio Lodge #302 prior to moving to West Virginia. Jim retired in 1997 from Lincoln Electric after 34 years of working as a crane operator. He enjoyed four wheeling and spending time with family.

Jim married Norma Jean McCourt on August 29, 1959. Norma Jean preceded him in death on July 24, 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Fay Verna Barnhill and Janet Mayo; three brothers: Ralph, Charles, and Ray Barnhill; and his great grandson, Frederick Berkley.

He is survived by his loving partner of 20 plus years, Charolet Young; one daughter, Jacqueline Berkley and husband, Tom, of Plainfield, IN; two sons: Jamie Barnhill and wife, Brenda, of Mentor, OH, and Jon Barnhill of Mooresville, IN; five grandchildren: Rachel and Stephanie Barnhill of Germany, Cole and Josh Berkley of Indiana, and Taylor Barnhill of Florida; seven great grandchildren: Felicity, Faith, Joslynn, Marie, Milena, Sophia, and Lyana; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2024. A graveside service will be held at Western Reserve Cemetery in Chesterland, OH on Friday, June 21, 2024.
