Upshur County Courthouse, courthouse annex will be closed July 4-5

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Courthouse and courthouse annex will be closed Friday, July 5, in addition to Thursday, July 4 following Gov. Jim Justice’s issuance of a proclamation declaring July 5 an official holiday for all public employees of the state.

Buckhannon City Hall will be closed Thursday, July 4, but will reopen Friday, July 5, due to ongoing utility operations.

“We have the utility boards and operations, so it’s harder for us to close,” finance and administrative director Amberle Jenkins said Wednesday.

Justice issued the order Wednesday afternoon.

“Independence Day is a day of remembrance for all the freedoms we have in our great country and of all the sacrifices made by our veterans and active duty military members,” Gov. Justice said. “I want to thank all our state employees for everything you do for West Virginia and wish you all a happy Independence Day weekend!

“There’s so much going on in West Virginia this weekend, I want to encourage everyone to get out and explore our beautiful state. Truly, there is no better place than Almost Heaven to spend this weekend with your family and friends.”
