Football ‘Cats drop 45-6 Thursday night MEC contest to Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-9) football team lost on the road, 45-6 to Charleston (6-2) at University of Charleston Stadium on Thursday.
 
WVWC Leaders
Javian Tomlinson carried the ball nine times for 46 yards. Nathan Brennan racked up his second touchdown reception of the season.
 
Michael Herbert led the way with six total tackles. Amir Franklin-Branch and Issac (Ike) Dove each recorded a tackle for loss. 
 
Charleston Leaders
Guy Myers finished 15-for-18 in the air for 223 yards and two touchdown passes. Josh Brown had 10 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown.
 
Inside the First Half
After the Charleston defense forced a punt on Wesleyan’s opening drive, Colby Cooper returned the punt 83 yards for a touchdown. With 3:38 left in the first quarter, Myers capped off a scoring drive with a one yard lunge into the end zone. 
 
In the final moments of the opening period (1:20 left), Myers bombed a 47 yard touchdown pass down the right sideline to Marquis McCoy. The Golden Eagles added a field goal in the second quarter for a 24-0 halftime advantage.
 
Inside the Second Half
Charleston scored on its first drive of the second half when Josh Brown scampered in from 35 yards away with 13:19 to go in the third quarter. 
 
Trailing 45-0, the Bobcats marched down the field with strong carries by Javian Tomlinson and a 17 yard pass play to Jujuan LinzyJamir Boyd lofted an eight yard touchdown pass to Brennan with 8:52 remaining in regulation.
