The Wild Sonflower’s September in Bloom lands on West Virginia Monarch Day, and the flower farm in Jane Lew is marking both with an afternoon among the flowers.
Live music runs the length of the event: Sam Eplin from 3 to 5 p.m. and Makenna Hope from 5 to 7 p.m. Food comes from Papa’s Belly WV, drinks from Lucky Six Sips and sweets from Two Scoops Ice Cream.
Activities include a touch-a-tractor, hat design with Medved Farms, permanent jewelry with Untamed Filly Clothing Co. and Weld & Root, face paint and henna with Paint Misbehavin’, tarot readings with Cosmic Crow Tarot, a ride on the bee train and a build-your-own bouquet stop. Local vendors will be set up throughout.
The farm says it has raised, tagged and released nine monarch butterflies so far this season, with about 15 more to go. Monarchs are West Virginia’s state butterfly and begin their southward migration toward the end of September.
