WV Prevention Solutions will teach an in-person Mental Health First Aid certification class on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lewis/Upshur Community Recovery Center, 83 W. Main St., Buckhannon.
Mental Health First Aid, a program of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, teaches participants to recognize and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adults. The course covers the ALGEE action plan: assess for risk of suicide or harm, listen without judgment, give reassurance and information, and encourage professional help and self-help strategies. The training is aimed at employers, police officers, hospital staff, first responders and anyone who wants to help.
Seating is limited to the first 30 people who register. To register, email Vicki@WVPreventionSolutions.org or call or text 304-413-5351.
