BUCKHANNON — Several local emergency agencies responded to a downed plane near the Hall Road, across from Weyerhaeuser, just before 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the Buckhanon Fire Department.

Upshur County EMS, the Buckhannon Fire Department and the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. Traffic was initially slowed along the Hall Road, near the intersection with Industrial Park Road, but most emergency units had left the area by approximately 6:45 p.m.

The initial dispatch came in from the State Police in Elkins, advising an aircraft was on its top in the field between the Hall Road and the Buckhannon River. Initial reports indicated the pilot was out of the plane, which was described as a private aircraft.

It took emergency units approximately 20 minutes to locate the site of the crash, which was near the river. According to radio traffic, a civil air patrol aircraft circling overhead helped direct responding units to the crash site.

Local authorities were in contact with the Federal Aviation Authority regarding the incident. More details were not immediately available.
