Deputy: Man entered woman’s house through pet door, took DVR

FRENCH CREEK – A Buckhannon man was arrested last week after allegedly entering a home though the pet door and taking a digital video recorder.

Brian Shaw, 37, of Buckhannon was arrested for burglary, a felony, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s Office filed by investigating officer Cpl. Rodney Rolenson with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the report, on Wednesday, Aug. 28, Shaw allegedly entered a residence on the Oak Grove Road in French Creek through the pet door located on the back side of the house. The complaint alleges he carried away a Cobra 8 Camera Digital Video Recorder that did not belong to him – and without permission from its owner.

Shaw allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation with the female owner of the house inside the residence, which reportedly caused her to flee and call 911 from her vehicle. Shaw allegedly tore the door handle from the vehicle, trying to get to the woman and then returned inside the residence to remove a DVR and left.

Shaw had previously been served with a no trespassing order by the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department. Bail was set at $40,000.

If convicted, Shaw faces confinement in a state correctional facility for not less than one nor more than 15 years.
