Demolition begins on East Main Street building that burned in October fire

BUCKHANNON — Workers began tearing down the Main Street building destroyed in a devastating October 2021 fire Tuesday.

The fire that broke out at 23-23B East Main Street, which housed Sweet-A-Licious, September Sun and Foster’s Marketing Group, was deemed a total loss in the wake of an accidental, electrical fire. Four months after the initial fire occurred Oct. 5, 2021, crews with Mainline LLC, owned by Kevin Lee, began razing the structure Tuesday afternoon.

City information coordinator Randy Sanders said the demolition could take up to two weeks but may also be completed sooner.

In a press release Sunday, city officials asked that the public watch for possible detours and temporary street closures as the job is completed.

“Much planning has gone into preparing for this demolition and all necessary permits have been secured,” the release said. “The public is asked to watch for possible detours and temporary street closure during the more critical times of the demolition. Please stay clear of all work areas and allow the project to be completed in a safe and orderly fashion.”
