BUCKHANNON — On Monday, December 11, the Upshur County Sheriff’s Tax Office and the Upshur County Commission hosted a Christmas party for Upshur County children and gave out over 30 backpacks.

Kristie Tenney, Upshur County Commission President, worked with Comfort Cases to acquire 50 backpacks, which contained pajamas, blankets, stuffed animals and personal hygiene items. Since the backpacks included age-specific items, Kristie worked closely with Laura McDaniels, CAC Director at Mountain CAP Child Advocacy Center, to identify and invite children from the various elementary schools throughout Upshur County.

Upshur County Sheriff Mike Coffman and Santa Claus entertained the children and handed out the backpacks along with treat bags and snacks. Sheriff Coffman also showed them one of his police cruisers along with lights and sirens. Everyone involved had a wonderful time!
