Clara I. Conrad

Clara I. Conrad, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Clara was born in Ellamore, W.Va. on November 20, 1931, a daughter of the late Mary Susan Queen.

On December 10, 1947 she married Ray Jr Conrad, who preceded her in death on October 13, 2004. Together for over 50 years, they raised their four children where they all resided in Century 1 in Barbour County.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Lynn Haymond.

She is survived by three daughters, Joan Bragg and fiancé Bill Mumaw of Martinsburg, W.Va., Elaine Alkire and husband Bob of Buckeye, W.Va. and Maxine Haymond of Buckhannon, W.Va.; one son, Ray Richard Conrad of Martinsburg; four grandchildren, Todd Bragg and wife Brenda of Martinsburg, Michelle Travis and husband Daniel of Martinsburg, Robert R. Alkire and wife Teresa of Marlinton and Corey Alkire and wife Laura of Charleston, W.Va.; five great-grandchildren, Kyleen and Chase Alkire of Marlinton, Michelle B. Smith and husband Donnie of Martinsburg, Chris Bragg and wife Natalie of Martinsburg, Olivia Travis of Martinsburg and Mason Alkire of Charleston and four great-great grandchildren, Camdyn Bragg, Liam Smith, Beckett Smith and Raegan Bragg all of Martinsburg.

Clara was an avid West Virginia fan and loved the Pittsburg Steelers. She never missed a football or West Virginia basketball game and often told all her children not to call her during the ball games.

Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, sewing and watching all sports on TV. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Clara was a Methodist by faith and a strong believer in God.

Friends will be received Friday, August 7, 2020 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
