Charles “Charlie Bill” Lynn McCartney

Charles “Charlie Bill” Lynn McCartney, 71, of Crawford, was called to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, March 2, 2025. He passed in the comfort of his home and surrounded by loving family.

Charlie Bill was born in Duffy on October 11, 1953, to the late Byron McCartney and Mildred Hawkins McCartney. In addition to his parents, Charlie Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilda Slaughter; two infant brothers: Cecil and Delbert McCartney; three brothers: James, Glen and Alvin McCartney; four sisters: Thelma Bonnett, Carrie Bell Bleigh, Linda Walker and Nelma Gay Bailey.

Charlie Bill married his loving wife, Vernila “Jane” Jordan McCartney, on December 24, 1976, and they built a beautiful life together for the last 48 years and two months.

Forever remembering their memories of Charlie Bill are his wife, Jane McCartney of Crawford; one daughter, Pamela Lane and husband, Jason, of Crawford; three sons: Charles “Little Charlie” McCartney of Arizona, Arnold Wayne McCartney of Mount Olive and Robert McCartney of Lewis County; six grandchildren: Tyler McCartney and companion, Haley, Dakota “Cody” McCartney, Ely McCartney Paige, Alexsandria Lane and companion, Tyler Wimer, Clarissa Lane and Benjamin Lane; two great-grandchildren: Christopher McCartney and Violet Wimer; one brother, Arnold R. McCartney and wife, Elaine; several nieces and nephews; and his three cherished little dogs: Peaches, Precious and Specks.

Charlie Bill was a devout Christian who found great solace in his religion and attended several churches in his lifetime, including the Orlando Baptist Church, Ingo Church, church at Walkersville and the Duffy church. He had been baptized and dedicated his life to serving the Lord. Charlie Bill was a dedicated worker, spending his career as a coal miner at the 09 Mine before retiring. He was a proud man who found fulfillment in his work. In his spare time, Charlie Bill found great joy in being outdoors. He enjoyed coon, bear and deer hunting, fishing and farming. These hobbies reflected his love for nature and the peace he found in it.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at Clutter Funeral Home – Alkire Chapel located at 190 Wildcat Rd. in Ireland from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025. Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday in the Alkire Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rick Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Kincaid Cemetery on Buttermilk Rd.
