Embrace the magic of the longest day of the year with a scenic float down the Buckhannon River. The Buckhannon River Watershed Association (BRWA) invites outdoor lovers and river enthusiasts to a Summer Solstice Paddle on Saturday, June 21, led by local paddling enthusiast and volunteer Water Trail Steward Will Evans.

Participants will gather at 5:30 p.m. at North End Park on 6th Street in Buckhannon. The group paddle begins at 6:00 p.m., offering a four-mile float along the gentle, flatwater stretch of the Buckhannon River — a perfect route for paddlers of all experience levels.

All non-motorized watercraft are welcome, including canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

What to bring:

  • Your own watercraft (canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards
  • A U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD) (required)
  • Safety whistle
  • Drinking water
  • Flashlight (the paddle will conclude around dusk)

After the paddle, participants are invited to cap off the evening with a sweet summer tradition — ice cream at Dairy Queen on Main Street, Buckhannon.

This event is part of BRWA’s broader mission to foster community connection, environmental stewardship, and sustainable recreation along the Buckhannon River and the Buckhannon Tygart Valley Water Trail.
