Ryan Hurst increased his season scoring count to 39 goals with another hat trick Thursday as the Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys soccer team defeated Bridgeport 6-1.
Dawson Carpenter also netted a pair of goals for the Bucs, with Damien Claypool rounding out the B-U scoring.
“They’re a young and scrappy team that put a lot of pressure on us in the midfield,” B-U head coach Mike Donato said of the Indians after the game. “They were able to get us out of shape and rush our play, but I was happy that we were able to settle and create some great scoring opportunities.
“Dawson’s goal in the start of the second half was a big momentum swing for us. That opened up our offense for us and was able to move the ball a lot better and less direct. I also love to see all goals tonight were assisted, so good to see that we’re moving the ball more.”
The Bucs have two tough tests ahead — they’ll host University at 1 p.m. on Saturday and then head to Lewis County on Tuesday. The regular season will draw to a close Thursday against Elkins, with kickoff in that game set for 7:30 p.m.
