Active COVID-19 cases drop statewide, tick up locally on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 1,098 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 17 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (16), Barbour (7), Lewis (7), Randolph (12) and Webster (17) counties. A total of five new cases were identified in Upshur County on Monday, and 17 in the last seven days, according to the DHHR.

No additional deaths have been attributed to the disease.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 20, 2021, there have been 3,076,810 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 165,259 total cases and 2,919 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 3.2%.

A total of 869,189 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 49% of the state.
