Active COVID-19 cases continue to decline in West Virginia

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 1,467 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 286 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (13), Barbour (3), Lewis (6), Randolph (54) and Webster (1) counties. In Upshur County, the number of active cases remained unchanged since Friday.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease since Friday, according to the DHHR – an 80-year old male from Clay County and a 70-year old male from Jefferson County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 28, 2021, there have been 3,001,257 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 163,967 total cases and 2,878 deaths. The active cases are below 1,500 which is the first time since May 18, 2020,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 1.79%.

A total of 821,956 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 46% of the state.
