Appalachian Impact is proud to announce its fourth annual gala, “A Night in the Secret Garden,” an enchanting evening of art, music, dancing and auctions, all in support of mentoring and youth programming for at-risk students across north-central West Virginia.

This year’s gala will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Outpost Event Center in Buckhannon. Guests will be immersed in a magical garden-themed atmosphere while contributing to a meaningful cause.

While the gala promises a dazzling evening of entertainment, its purpose runs far deeper. Appalachian Impact is dedicated to fostering mentoring relationships and providing youth programming that empowers students. Proceeds from the gala directly fund initiatives such as after-school enrichment, leadership development, community service opportunities and scholarships, which provide support for students’ educational aspirations.

Voices from the community

Sienna Chenoweth, a junior at West Virginia Wesleyan College and long-time volunteer, shared her experience:

“Appalachian Impact was my service site for the Wesleyan Service Scholar program. Even though my service site has changed, I return every year to support the gala. From students receiving scholarships to participating in The Adventure After School, the lives of so many children and teens alike have been touched, and I think that’s beautiful.”

Program Coordinator for Appalachian Impact Julie McCourt said: “The gala directly impacts the students and programming because it is Appalachian Impact’s only source of income. All the money that is generated from the gala goes directly towards our programming such as The Adventure After School!”

“The gala is organized by a team of volunteers. Without the time and commitment of our volunteers, the gala would not be possible. Of course, the gala would also not be possible without the community showing up and supporting. Every year the gala has grown as interest from the community grows!” McCourt said.

Kelsey Luterek, program coordinator for Appalachian Impact, said: “I actually became involved with Appalachian Impact through the gala last year. We had maybe half the ticket sales last year compared to this year. The growth I’ve seen within the organization just within the past year is such a testament to the passion of the individuals involved with Appalachian Impact. This year is even more special because we have huge news that we’re waiting to share with the community and more information about new programming will be announced at our gala!”

“This year’s event has already surpassed my vision for what we were planning to do. The community has been so supportive of our mission and so many local businesses and individuals have joined us to make this gala the biggest one yet,” Luterek said.

Virtual experience

The event is currently sold out but, for the first time this year, a virtual gala experience add-on is available for $10, allowing supporters who cannot attend in person to participate online. Virtual ticket holders will gain exclusive access to the gala’s online auction, featuring items such as Wheeling Nailers ticket vouchers, an Olive Garden gift card, a Disney trip, virtual chef lessons, a wine tasting certificate, a fishing trip and an ultimate sports package. In-person guests will also be able to bid on these items, but the virtual ticket ensures anyone, anywhere, can join in the fun and support Appalachian Impact.

Support the mission

Attending the gala provides guests not only with an unforgettable evening but also an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people in the region.
