Lacrosse Lady ‘Cats tumble to Notre Dame

BUCKHANON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-4, 0-1) lacrosse team dropped a home conference matchup versus Notre Dame (Ohio) (2-4, 1-0) on Wednesday afternoon at Ross Field.
 
WVWC Leaders
Emma Adcock ripped three goals in the game. Adely Trujillo-GonzalezMakenzi Lewellyn and Kaitlynn Canby each chipped in a goal for the ‘Cats. Goalkeeper Maggie Wroe snatched four ground balls and made 13 saves. Lewellyn and Canby both caused a pair of turnovers.
 
Notre Dame (Ohio) Leaders
Piper Hammond and Danyelle Hardy both scored four goals. Hardy dished out five assists. Nia Griffith scooped up four ground balls and caused four turnovers. Mackenzie Levine secured the win with four saves.
 
Inside the First Half
The visitors scored the first four goals of the contest. Adcock scored her first goal with 7:26 left in the first quarter. Lewellyn slipped a ball past the goaltender for her third goal of the season to make the score 5-2. NDC led at the end of the first frame, 7-2. Canby’s goal at the 12:32 mark of the second quarter put Wesleyan within five goals. NDC connected on four consecutive goals to take a 12-3 lead at intermission.
 
Inside the Second Half
Adcock’s second goal of the afternoon came with 2:00 to go in the third quarter. The freshman attacker completed the hat trick with 11:45 left in the final quarter. Trujillo-Gonzalez sent a ball to the back of the net for the second time this season in the fourth quarter. The Falcons began their MEC slate with a 19-6 victory.

The Lady Bobcats are scheduled to face Davis & Elkins on Saturday in Elkins, W.Va., at noon.
