17 new COVID-19 cases, one additional death reported in West Virginia on Saturday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 17 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR. The state’s 75th death was a 96-year old male from Fayette County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on May 30, 2020, there have been 96,369 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 1,989 total cases and 75 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Saturday in Berkeley, Cabell, Clay, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln and Marshall counties.

About 615 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 1,299 people have recovered and 75 have died, a mortality rate of about 5.5 percent.
