New physician joins SJMH staff

The board and staff of Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital (SJMH) welcome obstetrician/gynecologist William Hamilton, M.D., to its staff of caring physicians.

Dr. Hamilton will be seeing patients at two locations – Mountaineer Healthcare for Women, located next to SJMH, in Weston, and Stonewall Physician Services, next to the Upshur Cinema, in Buckhannon.

He is a West Virginia native growing up in Nitro.  He now lives with his wife Anne at Morgantown.  The couple has three children and twin grandsons. Their oldest daughter, Heather, and son-in-law Peter Bechtel, live with twins Chris and Ben in Chantilly, Va. The second child, Megan, works for Disney World in Orlando, Fla.; and  son, Alex, works in sales in Morgantown.

Dr. Hamilton received his bachelor of science in chemistry from Muskingum College, in Ohio.  He attended WVU Medical School with an Air Force scholarship.

“I spent two year of post-graduate work in family practice but then when I had the opportunity to work in obstetrics and gynecology, I decided to change my specialty.  I shifted to obstetrics because I enjoyed being with patients at such a happy time. It is exciting to bring new life into the world.  Of course helping  women with different issues is just satisfying in general,” he explained.

During most of his professional career, Dr. Hamilton was in the Air Force, and saw many parts of the world along with his wife, who also retired from the Air Force.

He truly enjoys his work in his field because he so enjoys working with people.

“I graduated in chemistry but found that instead of looking at glass tubes, I wanted to work with people, that is why I went into medicine.  It is gratifying to have the skills and knowledge to help people and make a difference in their lives,” he concluded.
